Going swimming?

Beware of the Weever fish!

Beware of a little sandy coloured fish that lives in the English Channel. It spends most of the time actually buried under the sea bed with just its venomous dorsal fin showing above the sandy bottom. On the rare occasions when it is plentiful, rows of erect black triangles decorate the sandy floor of the sea bed;

Woe betide a bather who steps upon a buried fish. The pain is usually described as excruciating as the spines embed into the human flesh and discharge their venom. The pain is at its most intense for the first two hours when the foot goes red and swells up and is then it feels numb until the following day with irritation and pain that may last for up to two weeks. Sometimes, the spine breaks off in the foot and it will cause discomfort until it is removed.

Country and Western.

An excellent evening at Marcille Robert, a country music evening, a bit of a warm up to the main event in Bain de Bretagne later in August.

Grease and flour a loaf pan and put the cake mix in
Cook at 200c for 40 - 50 min

If I had Pistachios available I would have added them. A lovely savoury cake. Wednesday I will make a similar cake with ham and onion instead of the tuna. I will remember this time to take some photographs as I go. Let me know how yours turns out, or any changes you make.

Hedgehogs

About 4 am this morning there was a terrible commotion in one of the chicken pens, I jumped out of bed quickly sending the dogs out fearing a fox was enjoying a free breakfast. I raced to find my wellies and a torch, two of the dogs came back though looking very confused. but Lucy stayed outside the Bantam chicken house barking, I quickly raced to turn of the electric fence and went to investigate, The baby chickens had come out through a small gap in the door and the mothers were going frantic, I opened the door and there was a hedgehog, now I know hedgehogs will eat eggs but I don't know that they eat baby chicks, but there was a dead baby in the house with a bite taken out of the back of its neck.I put Lucy in the house went back down and the hedgehog was still there so I shooed him on, hopefully he wont return tonight.

Just a small one for me please

Absinthe could be legalised in France after 100-year ban

Absinthe, the mind-bending green spirit said to have inspired Vincent van Gogh, could be legalised in France almost a century after being deemed a public menace.

The drink's powers were notorious in late 19th-Century Paris among bohemian artists and writers. Many swore it expanded consciousness and enhanced creativity, dubbing it the Green Fairy.

Van Gogh is said to have created Starry Night under its influence and it has been suggested it played a part in him cutting off one of his ears.

Keefs Birthday party

Off out now to Keef's birthday party, where we will all sit at watch the football.

No pass the parcel, no musical chairs and the England goalkeeper playing his own version of blind mans bluff. But a pleasant evening none the less and the weather behaved . However the new chickens we bought for Keefs present have escaped, as yet no news as to if they have been found. A reward has been offered for there safe return, although its advised not to approach the pair, but to call Keef so he can collect them and pay you your reward.
